LaLiga Dubai and IFA New England to visit the ‘Players Academy’ program for the first time

The Training Facilites José Ramón Cisneros Palacios hosted the training sessions of the Sevilla FC Players Academy program, offered by the club’s Innovation Center. On this occasion, three teams from the youth, infantile and cadet categories came to the facilities, representing LaLiga Dubai and IFA New England, from the United States of America.

The Players Academy program brings together training sessions given by Sevilla FC professionals and based on the methodology developed by the club over the years. On this occasion, Sevilla coaches Álex Martín, Javi Álex and Luis Álvarez led the sessions for the aforementioned groups of players, who after finishing the work moved to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium to take the Stadium Tour.

“The training program for Sevilla FC players is very professional due to the club’s staff and its facilities. We are very happy, especially the kids, to be here,” said Dominique Panmo Nana, from IFA New England. In the same vein, Daniel Voros, from the U.S. team, commented on the experience: “We come from Boston. We are going to play a tournament in Andalusia and we are at the Sevilla FC Academy. A great experience due to the magnificent facilities of the club and its staff. We also visited their stadium, we hope to return in the future”.

Conference by Jesús Arroyo on sports law to the students of LaLiga Business School

LaLiga Business School has once again chosen the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán as the venue for one of its special days, in which it takes the students of the various courses it offers out of its offices. On this occasion, the visit to Sevilla FC was hosted by the club’s deputy general manager, Jesús Arroyo, who shared his extensive experience in the field with the students of the Master’s Degree in Sports Law applied to professional soccer in the José Antonio Sánchez-Araujo press room.

LaLiga has developed the Master’s Degree in Sports Law applied to professional soccer to offer the possibility of specialization in one of the fastest growing branches of law. An area in which Sevilla FC has extensive experience with numerous success stories.

Likewise, Jesús Arroyo, is the Institutional Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Sports Law applied to Football at Sevilla FC in collaboration with the Catholic University of Murcia, whose registration period is still open for the new edition.

Closing Ceremony of the Master in Big Data applied to Scouting in Football at the Pizjuán

The Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán once again hosted the closing ceremony of the Master’s Degree in Applied Big Data for Scouting in Football, one of the flagship courses promoted by Sevilla FC’s Innovation Center as part of its increasingly extensive educational offerings. Students from the last two editions had an in-person session in the heart of the Sevillista temple, specifically in the José Antonio Sánchez-Araujo press room, where, among other professionals from the club, they received a masterclass from the club’s sporting director, Víctor Orta.

Additionally, during this closing ceremony, all the master’s students received a commemorative sash for completing the course in the stadium’s ante box, alongside Sevilla FC’s seven Europa League trophies won to date. All the students completed the day by enjoying the Stadium Tour of the legendary Sevillista stadium.

The master’s program is organized by Sport Data Campus, in collaboration with the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) and the Sevilla FC Innovation Center, and enables professionals to acquire all the necessary knowledge to organize a top-level ‘data-driven’ sports management. Registrations for the VII edition, which will run from October 2024 to June 2025, are now open.

Coaches of Sevilla FC Academy carried a clinic at the Europa FC Academy

The activity coordinated by the R&D&I Department of Sevilla FC through the Innovation Center never ceases, and last week it was the turn of two youth coaches from the club, Javier Álex and Diego Blanco, who traveled to Gibraltar Camp with the Europa FC Academy. There, they carried a clinic and explained the training methodology followed in Sevilla FC Academy.

Two training sessions, alongside John Moreno, director of the Europa FC Academy, helped the young footballers of the Gibraltarian team and their coaches gain a basic understanding of the main principles followed at Sevilla FC. The sessions were focused on players born between 2006 and 2012 initially, and then between 2013 and 2016.

With this type of activity, one of the main objectives of Sevilla FC’s Innovation Center is fulfilled: to share the knowledge generated through this platform with others. This educational intention is channeled through training programs.

Sevilla FC hosted the new edition of the FCE ProCourse 2024

The Sevilla FC training facilities hosted one of the training sessions organized by the Dutch Football Academy for future football coaches. Dutch coach Raymond Verheijen conducted a course for 39 coaches from different parts of the world, focusing on the ‘Team Tactics Formation Process’. During the course, the coaches witnessed training sessions of various youth teams from the Sevilla Academy and gained detailed insights into the daily operations of different areas within the Sevilla FC Academy. The visit concluded with a tour of the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

Football Coach Evolution (FCE) is a globally renowned football educational institute that provides knowledge to many federations and clubs worldwide. Raymond Verheijen founded the Dutch Football Academy for coaches who wish to develop their knowledge and challenge the status quo in football. Verheijen’s mission is to educate football coaches in a more objective and football-specific manner, rather than relying on trendy styles or merely copying the champions. Verheijen’s mission is supported by Guus Hiddink, one of the most successful Dutch coaches of all time, who became a global ambassador.

The Innovation Center Sevilla FC is expanding its educational offerings with a new sports education project set to launch next October. In this new project, Sevilla FC will offer official vocational training programs at both intermediate and advanced levels, leading to the qualification of Technical Sports Specialist in Football, which enables individuals to work as football coaches in Spain. Additionally, this qualification allows for subsequent access to certain university degree programs.

Sevilla FC’s Technological and Digitalization Commitment Presented at DES 2024 in Málaga

This week, the 2024 edition of the Digital Enterprise Show (DES) was held in Málaga, a conference that covered various aspects related to digitalization, artificial intelligence, and the use of all kinds of technology in the daily operations of businesses. The event aimed to include the presence of different professionals from Sevilla FC, who explained how the club has become a national and international reference in all these areas.

In this context, the Head of the Data Department at Sevilla FC, Elías Zamora, presented in the main auditorium how the club, with the help of IBM, has developed the Scout Advisor tool, which has revolutionized the world of scouting through the application of generative artificial intelligence. Zamora also presented in another exclusive panel all the milestones that Sevilla FC has achieved in recent seasons through its commitment to technological development in all business areas.

Meanwhile, Jara Cisneros, Head of Digital & CRM at Sevilla FC, detailed how the DruID tool enables the actionability of user and consumer data, their identification, real-time traceability, and advanced segmentation.

With participants from over 50 countries, DES fosters an international exchange of knowledge that inspires and facilitates the sharing of extraordinary success stories, like that of Sevilla FC.

Sevilla FC Chair Present at the XVI UPOEmprende Awards

This week, the XVI UPOEmprende Awards were presented at the Pablo de Olavide University, an initiative that aims to promote the entrepreneurial spirit among university community members, fostering the formation of entrepreneurial teams and the establishment of innovative companies based on knowledge and/or research results developed at the university. This competition has seen the participation of Sevilla FC for the third consecutive year, sponsoring one of the awards through the Sevilla FC Chair: University, Business, and Sport.

Out of the 80 initiatives presented, 17 were selected for the final presentation of the projects, which took place last Tuesday. Subsequently, in an event presided over by the rector of Pablo de Olavide University, Francisco Oliva, and with the institutional representation of Pablo Blanco on behalf of Sevilla FC, the jury’s decision and the award ceremony took place, including the ‘company established at Pablo de Olavide University’ award, sponsored by the Sevilla FC Chair. The winning project proposed the creation of a company dedicated to the manufacture and distribution of reusable silicone anti-drug covers, designed to protect consumers from chemical submission in certain environments.

The winners of the different categories will have free access to the accommodation services of the Andalusian Centers for Entrepreneurship (CADE); sponsorship of university entrepreneurial talent by the Association for Business Development and Technology Transfer of Dos Hermanas (TIXE) and the Federation of Industrialists and Merchants of Alcalá de Guadaíra (FICA); free access for six months to the business accommodation services of the Sevilla Chamber of Commerce’s Business Incubation Network; and the opportunity to apply for the SPUTNIK entrepreneurship promotion program. Sevilla FC opens its doors to the managers of the Future Falcons Project

Sevilla FC continues to work on ways to strengthen ties beyond its borders in its determined commitment to internationalization. Within this framework, the club has received a visit from the sports officials of Saudi Arabia’s Future Falcons, Ghassan Felemban and Romeo Jozak.

The Future Falcons project is dependent on the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and has been based for years at a high-performance center in the Catalan town of Salou. In recent years, this team has organized matches against some of the best teams in Europe, such as Sevilla FC, whose National League youth team played a friendly match against the Future Falcons last April.

Participation of the club in the XXXI Isokinetic Conference in Football Medicine: Bridging Science and Practice

The Isokinetic Conference 2024 brought together more than 2,000 participants from around the world over three days at the Civitas Metropolitano stadium, with representation from 80 countries and the participation of over 250 medical professionals. This event was organized by the Isokinetic Medical Group in collaboration with FIFA.

Sevilla FC was represented by two specialists from the Club’s Youth Academy Medical Services, selected among the top 14 cases of the conference.

Dr. Fátima Breña presented a case titled “Use of surface EMG in muscle injury: a case report in a female football player” along with Javier González, Rafael Castaño, Julia Gutiérrez, Matías Morán, Carmen Márquez, Andrés Márquez, and Esther Melero. The case presented by Dr. Breña at the XXXI Isokinetic Conference focused on the application of surface electromyography in muscle injury recovery, used as a tool to evaluate the dynamic part of the muscle (activation, symmetry, and coactivation). This method complements imaging tests and provides valuable real-time information for different professionals (doctors, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation specialists), useful for the “return to play” process.

In the context of sports injuries, Javier Antonio González Alcántara, a physical and sports rehabilitation specialist from the Club’s Youth Academy, presented a thorough and innovative review of the early stages of an anterior cruciate ligament injury in a reserve team player. This presentation took place on Saturday, May 25, as part of the “Best Case Report Contest.”

The seminar series on physical and sports performance at UPO has concluded

During April and May, three seminars on physical and sports performance were held at the facilities of the Pablo de Olavide University, led by the Head of Physical and Sports Performance R&D at Sevilla FC and PhD candidate Carmen Serrano Cañadillas.

In the seminars, the main results of the latest articles published in high-impact journals (indexed in the Journal Citation Report – JCR) in the field of “Sport Science” were presented and discussed, primarily with the aim of analyzing or improving physical and sports performance.

During the first seminar, held on April 11th, the results of articles published in March were presented. Out of all the reviewed publications, 22 articles were selected. One of the initial topics addressed in this first seminar was the role of the “Sport Scientist.” Questions were raised about what a sport scientist is, what training and experience they should have, what tasks they should perform, and in which areas they should operate within the sports institution. Additionally, the seminar explored the degree of relationship a sport scientist should have with other professionals involved in the sports phenomenon, including coaches and athletes.

During the second seminar, held on April 25th, three fundamental topics were addressed: evaluation of physical and sports performance, the effect of endurance and repeated sprint training, and the effect of strength training. In the first block, three articles were used to first reflect on the necessity of evaluating athletes’ performance and then to examine the methods and means used in the evaluation processes, as well as the variables considered important for obtaining sufficient information on potential performance changes.

The third seminar was held on May 15th and covered different thematic blocks. During April, a significant number of studies were published related to quantifying the training and match load in football players. Another important topic to consider when scheduling the training load during a week is deciding when to introduce the rest session (MD+1 or MD+2) or how to manage the weekly training load between players who participate more in the match (starters) and those who participate less or not at all (non-starters).

Sevilla FC’s presence in Boston at IBM Think 2024

This week, club representatives travelled to Boston for IBM’s biggest convention of the year, the IBM Think 2024. The event showcases industry leaders that have enjoyed success with technological information and the use of data in sporting management.

Elías Zamora, the club’s Chief Data Officer, was invited as a guest speaker to discuss the launch of Scout Advisor. The tool uses IBM’s generative AI platform, watsonx, to sort through scouting databases quickly and efficiently, turning data into comprehensible language.

Zamora said, “Talent cannot be identifed purely through data and statistics, it is important that human opinions are involved too. At Sevilla FC we have one of the biggest scouting networks in the world and we use the technology to combine data with our scouts’ judgements. We are using technology to supplement human knowledge so that we get the most out of our scouting network.”

In addition, the visit to the USA was used to further enhance the club’s relationship with IBM. Zamora had a meeting with the company’s Senior Vice President and Director of Research, Darío Gil, to discuss the possibility of future collaboration.

We also had the opportunity to learn about the technological projects of other sports entities in attendance, such as Major League Baseball teams the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox, as well as the NBA’s Boston Celtics and Mexican football club Chivas de Guadalajara.

Students from Tabladilla School visited the Training Facilities as part of the ‘Work Experience’ initiative.

As part of the ‘Work Experience’ initiative and in collaboration with the Sevilla FC Innovation Center, a group of high school students from Colegio Tabladilla visited the Ciudad Deportiva José Ramón Cisneros Palacios. The aim was to integrate these students into the daily activities of a company or institution, in this case, Sevilla FC, just before they choose their university specializations. In this way, the students were able to experience firsthand a day in the life of professionals in various areas of the club.

On one hand, students focused on communication and marketing attended the Open Media Day organized that day by the Club’s Communication Department, together with La Liga, during which many of the first-team players engaged with the media in preparation for the upcoming El Gran Derbi that same week. Subsequently, they received guidance on potential career paths within the organization from José María Cruz Gallardo, the head of R&D at the club. They also interacted with colleagues from the Communication and Brand departments, visited their facilities, and toured the recording sets.

Likewise, students interested in the healthcare field spent the morning with Rafael Castaño and Julia Gutiérrez, members of Sevilla FC’s Youth Academy Medical Services. They experienced a typical workday of these professionals and their tasks with the future players of Sevilla FC. In this way, Tabladilla School students had a first-hand introduction to the professional world they will soon enter, helping them to orient their future in an immersive manner.
