Both entities will collaborate on the analysis of Game Intelligence, an automated system for collecting and analyzing dynamic in-game event data. This technology provides insights into player performance, including pass selection and execution, off-the-ball movement, and defensive contribution—all supported by key physical attributes. Game Intelligence enables the extraction of precise, actionable data enriched with real game context.
This study analyzes the differences between the full-back and wing-back positions, focusing on their behavior in relation to the type of offensive runs performed, based on data obtained from two of the top European leagues: Spain’s LaLiga and the English Premier League during the 2023–24 season. It is important to note that, throughout this study, all runs are normalized per 30 minutes of possession (TIP - Time In Possession). The aim is to identify the existing differences in systems that use three center-backs with wing-backs compared to formations with a traditional back four.
Subsequently, a new analytical variable is introduced: playing style. This means that the study not only investigates correlations related to player position but also considers the style of play associated with each formation. The analysis highlights the need to tailor player profiles according to the specific demands of each position and tactical system.
Keywords: full-backs, wing-backs, playing systems, tactical styles, dangerous runs.*
